THE BLACK PIRATE with live score by ALLOY ORCHESTRA
Roger Ebert called Alloy Orchestra “the best in the world at accompanying silent film”. They will join us in Mill River Park with their original score to The Black Pirate, written by and starring Douglas Fairbanks. This fast-paced pirate tale shows a mature Fairbanks at his swashbuckling best. One of the first movies shot in color (two-strip Technicolor), this film combines a gripping plot with some of the most gorgeous footage of the silent era. Fairbanks is the Black Pirate, who sets out to avenge the death of his father. Two of Fairbanks’ most memorable scenes are in this film: sliding down the sail of a ship on the point of a knife, and the totally surreal attack of the underwater army.
